Olive Oil Tips
Always keep the bottles of olive oil in a dark cool place. Avoid to keep the olive oil in plastic bottles.
When you cook pulses add the olive oil in the end, otherwise it loses a great part of its vitamins.
Use the infused olive oils in salad or barbecue dressings and in appetizers according to taste. Avoid cooking with them. The best way to enjoy all their aromas is to have them raw.
Infused olive oils are more expensive but you don't have to buy another one each time the bottle is empty. You can fill it with extra virgin up to three times. The herb inside the bottle will give its aroma and taste a few more times!
Use olive oil in frying: it makes a fried dish more healthy and tasteful. Try to make crisps with olive oil; the taste is unique!
Honey Tips
Make a cup of hot tea (use the fantastic "tea of the mountains" that you will find in the "gourmet collection") and add honey instead of sugar. This hot drink is a natural remedy for sore throats, coughs and general cold symptoms and its calming effects promise a good night sleep.
Alternative to tea you can make a hot drink with heated red wine. The combination of wine honey will soften your sore throat (a small quantity that is, other wise you’ll end up completely ...drunk!).
Honey is a hangover remedy. Fill half of a cup with warm milk; add a tablespoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice and 50 ml of water. You will feel much better soon.
Add honey, dried plums and walnuts to Greek strained yoghurt and make a fantastic, low fat traditional Greek dessert for lunch, or dinner. It’s so easy to make and your friends will love it!
Add honey instead of sugar or chocolate to home made donuts.
Salad and barbecue dressings, especially the classic vinegraite are fantastic with a tablespoon of honey. The body of the dressing becomes richer and much more tasteful.
Keep the honey in a cool dark place. If it crystallizes do not think it’s gone out. Honey never spoils!! On the contrary this is an indicator of top quality honey. Take out of the jar the amount of honey you want and heat it until it dissolves.
Make a beautiful sweet snack adding honey on a slice of bread with yellow cheese (preferably gruyere).
